Malteser Slice

Malteser Slice

Good old fashioned comfort food, made at home for your family.

Proper yummy comfort food in the form of chocolate Malteser slices.

Ingredients:

400g Organic Milk Chocolate, broken into small pieces

200g butter

3 tbsp golden syrup or healthy alternative

250g Digestive Biscuits, crushed into a mixture of crumbs and broken pieces.

200g Maltesers

Topping:

200g Organic Milk Chocolate

50g Maltesers

Method:

Grease and line a 20x20cm baking tin.

Melt the chocolate, butter and syrup together in a large heavy bottomed saucepan over a low heat.

Once the mixture is melted and smooth remove from the heat and leave for a minute or two otherwise your Maltesers will melt. Once it has cooled a little poor in the crushed biscuits and Maltesers and stir well.

Pour the mixture into the lined tin and smooth out with a spatula.

Place in the fridge for an hour to firm up.

When the Malteser slice is firm enough you can prepare your topping.

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water. Once the chocolate is fully melted pour and smooth over the Malteser traybake. Crush the additional 50g of Maltesers (very lightly) and sprinkle over the melted chocolate.

Return to the fridge for at least 2 hours or until the chocolate is hard.

Once the slices are set, cut into bars. Try not to eat them all at once : ).

Remember, homemade food is always the best option for the environment. Do try and choose the best ingredients you can afford. We always buy Maltesers in a box. Tesco is now taking soft plastics back to recycle which is a huge step forward.

I have a box full in my kitchen ready to return. I just need to remember to take them ; (.
